Ponte di Calatrava

Location:
Venice, VE
Italy
The Ponte della Constituzione (Constitutions Bridge), known in Venice as the Ponte di Calatrava after Santiago Calatrava, the Spanish architect who designed it, is the fourth bridge to be built across the Grand Canal and the most controversial. It connects San Lucia railway station and the Piazzale Roma, the city's main arrival point by bus or car, welcoming an connecting visitors to Venice and saving them a long walk or vaporetto ride. The bridge is a sleek curve of glass and steel, which some believe is too futuristic and at odds with Venice's rich medieval and Renaissance architecture.
